Why This Matters

Staying Connected Matters Now More Than Ever

For many older adults, joyful conversations are overshadowed by the fear of forgetting, falling behind, or losing the thread between calls. Families feel the impact too. The numbers reveal a growing population experiencing this challenge.

Older adults staying connected with family through a video call

56 million

older adults live in the U.S., a number that will double by 2060.

Older adult experiencing memory challenges

40%

of adults over 65 report memory challenges that impact confidence in social interactions.

Older adult separated from family by distance

47%

of older adults live more than 200 miles away from their closest family members.

Connection that lasts

The Idea

A Call Can Become the Beginning of Ongoing Care.

Lumi captures meaningful moments during conversations and brings them back later as soft prompts for small follow-up actions. A memory from a call becomes a photo sent, an update shared, or a gentle reason to reconnect.

A hybrid communication system for families and older adults, with a phone app and voice-interactive dock that make hearing easier and control more intuitive.

An accessible app with voice interaction, clear guidance, simple sharing, and reminders that are easy to set up and follow.

Quietly preparing the next call in the background, so connection feels more natural, more consistent.

What We Believe

Designing for aging is not only aboutaccessibility or assistance. It is also aboutpreserving confidence and social presence.
